The vale
Source: A World of Ice and Fire pg. 162
A windswept land of seagulls and sheep shit to the east and a fertile valley nestled at the foot of the Giant’s Lance make up the Vale. A land separated from the rest of Westeros by the Mountains of the Moon, it strong natural defenses against invaders of kingdoms old and new.
Unlike the Riverlands just to the west, the Vale was ruled by the Arryns, aka the Falcon Kings, dating back to the Age of Heroes. The Vale is also where the Andals landed in Westeros. Unlike the First Men, who crossed into Westeros via land bridge that connected Dorne, the Andals were seafarers who brought with them the Faith of the Seven and its holy text, The Seven-Pointed Star.
Not only is the Vale secure, but it’s ruling lords make their home in The Eyrie, a white-blue marble castle nestled near the Giant’s Lance. Although teeming with ancient families and knights ready to prove their honor, it is the perfect place for cowards and indifferent lords to call home.
