The riverlands

Source: A World of Ice and Fire pg. 150

A region ribboned with the might Trident and all it’s tributaries, the Riverlands has long been the center of conflict for Westeros.  Unlike the Vale, with the Mountains of the Moon, or the North, with the Neck, the Riverlands have no natural defenses.  Hundreds of River Kings have risen and fallen through the ages, so many that many of the banners for the region belong to extinct houses.  It hosted battlefields during the War of the Five Kings, the Dance of the Dragons, and even the Battle Beneath the God’s Eye, during Aegon the Uncrowned’s short rebellion of his uncle Maegor the Cruel.

Although never kings, House Tully was installed as the Lord Paramount of the Trident by Aegon the Conqueror and have been seated in the castle Riverrun along the Blue Fork and Red Fork of the Trident.
