The North

Source: A World of Ice and Fire pg. 134

A land as hard and cold as the people who populate it, the North is home to families such as the Starks, the Boltons, the Umbers, and the Manderlys.  Much like in Minnesota when the winter refuses to end, elders in the North will “go hunting” and wander off into the endless black cold to allow their family to not starve.

Although the North comprises 1/3 the continent of Westeros, it’s also the most thinly and sparsely populated.  Their gods are the old gods, their food is hearty, and their summers have snow (just like Minnesota!).
